Top 5 best pop love songs for a romantic date night

Romance and music are two subjects that have been inextricably linked for centuries. If you’re browsing through profiles on a dating platform, discovering someone sharing your musical tastes is always exciting.

Not only can this provide an ice-breaker when you start messaging each other, but artistes you both appreciate could also provide a talking point throughout your relationship. No date night would be complete without a playlist of pop love songs to create the perfect ambiance.

Dating specialists from LesbieMates conducted an internal poll among their users and they’ve come up with these top 5 songs.

1. “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé with Jay-Z

This strident R&B anthem spent seven weeks at the top of the Billboard charts when it was released in 2003 and was also listed in Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘Top 500 songs of all time.’ It has everything you could require for a date night. A pounding beat. An upbeat chorus that lingers long after the song has finished. But most of all, the supremely stylish and confident 21-year-old Beyoncé strutting her stuff in the video. Jay-Z raps, too and although the public was unaware of their relationship at the time, now we know, it makes this fantastic love song even more evocative.

2. “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” by Kylie Minogue

Co-written by English pop singer Cathy Dennis and Rob Davis, formerly of 1970s Glam Rock group Mud, this is an incredibly catchy pop song about love. Whether you’re preparing for date night, or you’re already united over refreshments and wine, this is the ideal backdrop.

3. “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King

If a lot of pop music is about hits that are here today, gone tomorrow, this is a timeless classic. First performed by US songwriter and performer Ben E King back in 1961, it has been covered numerous times, by everyone from John Lennon to Florence and the Machine. Like so many memorable love songs, it relies on the most simplistic of basslines, but when combining with King’s soulful delivery, this creates the formula for a pop masterpiece.

4. “Video Games” by Lana Del Ray

Lana Del Ray is known for her hauntingly impassioned tones, and ‘Video Games’ is a wonderful song invoking fantasies, but sung in an airy voice. If you’d prefer piano ballads to dance anthems for your date night, this will set the right tone.

5. “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt

When asked what inspired this hit single, Blunt refused to do anything so obvious. Was it about an ex-girlfriend? Or, as the lyrics allude to, a situation that might be familiar to many. Coming across a stranger during an otherwise uneventful commute, and finding yourself struck by the notion of unattainable love.
