Durven Dawes of New York City, New York, United States is the African-American father of the four children of Stephanie Denaro, 38, of Rosedale, Queens, New York City. The latter is the white woman given the nicknames Bagel Karen and Bakery Karen after hurling racist insult to Victor Kamara, 30, an African-American cashier at Davidovich Bakery at Essex Market in New York City.
At around 3:00 p.m. on March 21, 2021, Dawes and Denaro’s four children were inside Davidovich Bakery. The children were with their mother who wanted to buy bagels but was refused service by Kamara because she refused to wear a face mask.
“Ma’am, he’s not going to serve you so please leave,” a security guard told Denaro. She responded, “Why? ‘Cause he’s a b***h a** n****r?”
Denaro repeated the racial slur and refused to leave. Kamara told ABC News. “It wasn’t her place to talk to any Black person like that.”

On March 25, 2021, Dawes broke his silence and condemned the racist behavior of the mother of his four children. He told TMZ, “I have a problem with everybody using that form of language, anybody whatsoever, even my own children.”
Dawes told the publication that he is concerned about his children’s safety “150 percent.” He added, “I’m not a psychiatrist or a psychologist but my opinion is that if that young lady get proper mental care and be monitored effectively, then perhaps her actions won’t be what, so negative, that’s what type of people in a racist manner in whatever circumstances.”
In addition, Dawes gave messages to both Denaro and Kamara. To her, he said, “My message to you as my children’s mom, atone yourself, you’re educated enough to do the right thing, sit back, think about it, don’t get indoctrinated, don’t make, um, poison enter your system, your mind and make amend.”
To Kamara, Dawes said, “I’m sending my apology to that young man that if the racism that Stephanie Denaro direct to you, I apologize on behalf of my family.” Dawes added, “I hope you can forgive me in your heart because I think you have it in your heart, man.”
