George Floyd, 46, died in the custody of Derek Michael Chauvin, 44, and three other Minneapolis Police Department officers in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States on May 25, 2020. On May 28, 2020, Chauvin and his now ex-wife Kellie May Xiong Chauvin, 46, separated.

On May 31, 2020, Kellie filed a divorce petition in the Washington County District Court in Stillwater, Minnesota. Derek missed the deadline to file an answer and counter-petition to challenge any of her proposals.
On October 26, 2020, Washington County District Judge Juanita Freeman rejected the divorce petition and cited the possibility of fraud. In the judge’s order, Derek and Kellie were allowed to submit a revised agreement, which should include a balance sheet indicating the amount of debt each person has, Fox9 KMSP has learned.
On February 2, 2021, Derek and Kellie’s divorce was granted. She received $704,000 from the divorce settlement, leaving him with $421,000.
Kellie Xiong
Born in Laos, Kellie was only 3 years old when she and her family fled to safety in Thailand. In October 1980, they moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA.
In 2006, Kellie and her first husband KuJay Xiong divorced. After the divorce, she moved to Minnesota.
With an associate’s degree in radiology, Kellie took an internship in the emergency room of the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She met Derek in that hospital, the same hospital where Floyd was also pronounced dead.
In June 2010, Kellie and Derek got married. They have no children together.
In 2011, Derek and Kellie bought a townhouse in Windermere, Florida, USA for $210,900. In 2017, they bought another house in Oakdale, Minnesota for $260,000, which sold for $279,000 in August 2020.
Representing Oakdale, Kellie was crowned United States of America’s Mrs. Minnesota 2019 in October 2018, making her the first woman of Hmong descent to win the title. She was unplaced when she represented Minnesota in USOA’s Mrs. 2019 in February 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
