Farrakhan Muhammad, 31, has been arrested. He is accused of shooting three people at Times Square in New York City, New York, United States.
Muhammad is known to the New York City Police Department for selling illegal CDs in Times Square. His last known address is in Queens, New York City but investigators found out he had connections to some addresses in Florida, USA.
At around 4:55 p.m. on May 8, 2021, Muhammad allegedly tried to shoot his brother in Times Square near Seventh Avenue and West 45th Street. The brother, who also sells CDs in the area, was not hit.
However, stray bullets hit three female victims namely Marcela Aldana, 43, of Passaic, New Jersey, USA, Wendy Magrinat, 23, of Scituate, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA and Skye Martinez, 4, of Brooklyn, New York City. The victims, who did not know each other, have recovered from non-life-threatening injuries.
Magrinat was a tourist. She was visiting New York City with her husband and their daughter Elise Magrinat, 2, along with her mother, stepfather and sister, 7, when the shooting happened.
Wendy heard two men arguing before she was hit by a stray bullet. She told ABC 7 New York, “I saw a police officer and I was screaming to him, ‘I have a 2-year-old. I don’t want it die. Please help me. I’m shot please help me.”
Later, Muhammad and his girlfriend were caught on camera buying dog food and other supplies at a store in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA. On May 12, 2021, U.S. Marshals and members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him while he and his girlfriend were eating in a car outside a McDonald’s in Starke, Bradford County, Florida, according to the Associated Press.
It was not the first time Muhammad was arrested. He was arrested seven times between 2007 and 2015 on different charges including fraud, robbery and grand larceny.
On March 17, 2018, Muhammad was arrested for aggravated harassment in Midtown Manhattan, Manhattan, New York City. On October 17, 2018, he was charged with harassing a woman, 25, on the phone and sending her threatening text messages.
On March 14, 2020, Muhammad was arrested for assault. He allegedly harassed a couple on the street in Midtown Manhattan and when a man tried to intervene, he grabbed the man by the neck and threw him into a garbage can.
