Cannabidiol
Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are two of 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants. Since 2017, food and beverage products containing CBD have been widely marketed in the United States.
In most parts of the U.S., CBD is readily obtainable. All of the states in the country have laws legalizing it with varying degrees of restriction.
2018 Farm Bill
In December 2015, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) eased the regulatory requirements to allow researchers to conduct CBD trials. The federal agency is based in Maryland, USA where licensed residents can legally grow and sell CBD.
On December 20, 2018, 45th U.S. president Donald Trump signed the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (2018 Farm Bill) into law. It reauthorized $867 billion for many expenditures approved in the Agricultural Act of 2014, which 44th U.S. president Barack Obama signed into law on February 7, 2014.
The 2018 Farm Bill made hemp legal in the U.S. Through this bill, it is virtually impossible to keep CBD illegal in the country.
As a hemp-derived product, CBD is no longer in the list of controlled substances in the U.S. It is legal to possess CBD from hemp but it is illegal to possess CBD from cannabis.
Nordic Oil
In 2018, Danish brothers Dannie Hansen and Christian Pallesen founded Nordic Oil in Munich, Germany. Hansen leads the company from its headquarters in Munich while Pallesen oversees the science and production behind all of their products.
Nordic Oil also has offices in the U.S. and the Netherlands. Its products are sold in 15 countries.
In Denmark, cannabis-derived products that contain less than 0.2% THC are no longer subject to the laws government illicit drug use and possession since July 2018. In 2019, the Netherlands exported 31,768 MT of hemp seed, which is worth $53.7 million.
It is legal to cultivate hemp fiber in the Netherlands. However, the production of CBD is prohibited under Dutch law.
