Erica Kious biography: 13 things about San Francisco, California businesswoman

Erica Peggy Kious used to own eSalon SF, which is located in Cow Hollow, San Francisco, California, United States. The hair and tanning salon made headlines when 52nd speaker of the U.S. house of representatives Nancy Pelosi had her hair styled there on August 31, 2020.

Pelosi’s regular stylist, who typically goes to her house to do her hair, used to work at eSalon SF. The stylist was not available that day so the Italian-American Democrat’s staff was referred to the salon’s lead stylist Jonathan DeNardo.

Known for strongly campaigning for the use of face mask amid the pandemic, Pelosi was caught on tape walking through eSalon SF with wet hair and without a mask covering her mouth or nose. The congresswoman from California was being followed by DeNardo, who was wearing a black face mask.

Amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, local ordinances kept salons closed in San Francisco. Salons in the city had been closed since March 2020 and were allowed to reopen on September 1, 2020 for outdoor hairstyling services only.

“This business offered for the speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business,” Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff Drew Hammill said of eSalon in a statement obtained by CNN. “The speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment.”

Kious told Fox News that it was “a slap in the face” that Pelosi went to eSalon SF feeling “she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in.” Here are 13 more facts about the former salon owner:

  1. She is originally from Fresno, California.
  2. She lives in San Francisco.
  3. Aside from Fresno and San Francisco, she has lived in other areas of California including Corte Madera, San Rafael, Belvedere Tiburon, Clovis and Costa Mesa.
  4. She previously lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
  5. She is a registered Republican.
  6. She owns a condominium in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. She owns two more salons in San Francisco aside from the one located in Cow Hollow.
  7. She earned her associate’s degree from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California and studied cosmetology at Lyles College of Beauty in Fresno.
  8. She and Bill Tookooian have two daughters.
  9. She was 34 years old when she established eSalon SF in January 2009.
  10. On October 21, 2013, she and Christina M. Boelen faced each other in a money case filed by the latter in a small claims court in San Francisco. The judge asked the plaintiff to pay her $1,040 principal and $50 costs for a total judgment of $1,090.
  11. In 2019, she donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
  12. In September 2020, she said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that she was permanently closing eSalon SF and claimed that she was attacked for exposing Pelosi.
  13. “Never did I ever think that I would have lost everything I worked for by leftist politics,” Fox News quoted her as saying at Heritage Action’s Save Our Paychecks Tour kick-off event in Fresno on August 10, 2021.

  3. Points: Speaker Pelosi hardly had a skeleton key and let herself in, nor did she kick the door down and use force to get a shampoo. It is absurd to play this as though the shop owner and staff were acting against their will.

Speaker Pelosi, on the other hand, must have staff that did not check local Covid-19 restrictions, and neither did she. If someone in that position can’t figure it out, how the hell can the rest of us. And, she could have found another stylist to come to her home, or washed and blown-dry her own hair.

In this, Speaker Pelosi looks both stupid, and human, with the shop owner, (and staff? devious, pandering jerks.

      1. Does not matter what we do in life to put food on the table. It is a job it can be a profession I know several ex strippers with MBAs and make tons and tons of money and have big fine houses. So who are you to judge a person or anybody or throw stones at anyone for putting food on the table and paying their bills? Search your own soul before you try searching other peoples.

  4. Pelosi is just stupid, she decided to get her hair done, has helped make the laws and been in Congress for decades, and wants everyone to believe the hair salon lured her in to take a picture/video without a mask. Pelosi is the one that didn’t wear the mask and broke the local laws, no one else. What a moronic move and is akin to having a murderer say the victim made the killing happen. No one forced Pelosi to get her hair done and she makes the laws and is old enough to know better.

Only a mentally challenged person would believe that the owner is allowed to dictate who’s arse sits in a stylist’s chair, all the owner can do is rent to them and is not even allowed to enforce the laws in their own salon. The owner can only report to the State licensing committee so if anyone set anyone up it would be the stylist setting up whoever is in their chair as they have complete say and why you have to book appointments with the Stylist and not the Salon.

And logic dictates that the Stylist knew about the cameras and still helped Pelosi break the law while helping her not use the rules everyone else has to use about wearing a mask. And yes the law for San Fransisco is both the Stylist and customer must wear masks and be outside. So her being inside with no mask is 100% on Pelosi, no one else and as far as the salon goes it is on the Stylist for not enforcing the rules he signs on his CA Cosmetology license.

The owner has 0 say and actually has to have a long list to get rid of a cosmetologist that is renting a chair in their salon so if the stylist has been doing this for months it will only count as breaking one rule. The committee gets to decide if it is legit or not. It was kind of dumb of the stylist to admit he has been bringing people into his chair for months as rarely do they let complaints stick. I saw with my own eyes a stylist bald up four different women because she mixed the chemicals wrong and nothing happened to her even after the salon got sued right in Oceanside CA. So if the owner was actually doing what the Stylist says she would have been in jail long before now.

This is 100% the Stylist and Pelosi actions and choices, the owner has and had nothing to do with it.

For Pelosi to blame her actions on another is childish at best and those supporting this type of behavior just promote idiocity as the rule.

  5. Sorry, Erica, you had to financially suffer needlessly these last several months while others live comfortably and come and go wherever they please while they receive plenty of money. I pray you and your family go where you are truly welcome and you have abundant success.

  6. Karma is a b**** and so is Erica Kious.

Jonathan DeNardo is not Nancy Pelosi’s regular San Francisco hair stylist. Her regular stylist who used to work at eSalon normally does Nancy Pelosi’s hair at her home. He was unavailable so Jonathon DeNardo’s services through eSalon were used through a referral from Nancy Pelosi’s stylist.

In statements, DeNardo’s attorney confirms claims of a set-up and says (Erica) Kious has been “almost forcing stylists” to work at the salon during the closure.

Kious says DeNardo is making false statements.

The attorney also says DeNardo told him he and all stylists at the salon have all quit and removed their belongings as of Wednesday evening. “We have no further comment at this time, as Mr. DeNardo has been receiving rather steady death threats, as has this office. He stands by his comments but, again, has nothing further to add at this time,” he said.

“This business offered for the speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business,”

Owner of SF’s eSalon fights back tears denying she ‘set up’ Nancy Pelosi, demands apologyhttps://abc7news.com/nancy-pelosi-salon-drama-erica-kious-esalon-jonathan-denardo-hair-setup/6406373/

I doubt Erica Kious will be able to get any decent beauticians to work for her ever again. She has put herself out of business in California.

According to the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, Kious has operated the eSalon business on Union Street in San Francisco since May 2012. But the state board’s website shows the eSalon’s cosmetology license expired on May 31, 2020.

Former Nevada Republican State Senator Danny Tarkanian’s wife, Amy Tarkanian, set up a GoFundMe page in an attempt to help Kious relocate her business due to threats. Amy Tarkanian tweeted in support of Kious, “She has received an outpour of praise & thanks, but also many death threats. She is having others pack up her belongings because she fears returning.”

Online records show that in June 2010, Kious donated $300 to one of Danny Tarkanian’s political campaigns. The Associated Press has described Tarkanian as a “perennial candidate.” At the time of writing, the fundraising page has raised over $110,000. The goal of the page is $300,000.

Amy Tarkanian, the daughter-in-law of late Fresno State basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, says she’s a close friend of Kious.

In an early-August post to Facebook, Kious said she was moving to Tennessee part time.

This all smells to high heaven and is just a little TOO convenient. Erica Kious whose business has declined by 60% due to the COVID-19 stay at home order by the Governor of California stumbled on a way to embarrass Nancy Pelosi AND get enough money to finance her move to Tennessee where she can start over again. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi’s home is now being picketed by a bunch of Karens.

  8. Have most of you forgotten that most stylists live on their tips. Oh yeah you all are perfect have perfect little lives have perfect little jobs and don’t need to worry about putting food on your table because it just magically appears. In that stupid city a studio apartment is $3,500 a month That’s no bigger than a closet in your house. I could not imagine what floor space cost in that city. And I don’t live that far away from there so I do know what things cost there.
As far as you backstabbing slum bags want to continue bashing the e salon from somewhere way way far away in your dream worlds. It all looks like clover and sunshine and daisies. Well I’m going to tell you it’s not I truly wish they would show the real city and all the crap that they have to deal with to even work in that city.
