Brendan Mitchell Henry, 23, of Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia, United States has been arrested by the Fauquier County Police Department. He was charged with assault and battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Henry is a music teacher at H.M. Pearson Elementary School in Catlett, Fauquier County, Virginia. On September 15, 2021, he allegedly used his belt to restrain a female student, 7, who he felt was being disruptive in the classroom.

The girl was not injured in the incident. A letter about the incident was sent home to the parents of H.M. Pearson Elementary School students, according to Fauquier County Public Schools spokesperson Tara Helkowski.

“Our top priority is to make sure all of our students and staff feel safe,” Fauquier Times quoted Helkowski as saying. “The school counselor, school social worker and school psychologist will be available for any students who may need support at this time.”

On September 20, 2021, Fairfax County Police Department officers took Henry into custody without incident. He was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond by a Fairfax County magistrate, who conducted a bond hearing.

The Herndon resident graduated from college in 2020. From January 2021 to June 2021, he worked part-time as a music teacher in Fairfax County.

In other news, a woman was allegedly assaulted by Kristopher Debuhr, 31, of Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming at a residence on Copperhead Road in Catlett on August 27, 2021. He was charged with strangulation, malicious wounding, domestic assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Catlett is zoned for Cedar Lee Middle School and Liberty High School. The town is located in the southeastern part of Fauquier County.
