New Zealand’s Miss Universe 2021 candidate would have been Victoria Velasquez Vincent, 26, of Cavite, Philippines. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand to an Irish father and a Filipino mother.
Raised in Auckland, Vincent is fluent in English and Filipino. She earned her master’s degrees in architecture and heritage conservation from the University of Auckland.
On January 31, 2021, Vincent arrived from New Zealand to the Philippines. Amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, she competed in a national beauty pageant for the first time.
At Miss Universe Philippines 2021, Vincent represented Cavite, her mother’s home province. Competing against 27 other finalists, she ranked third during the coronation night at the Henann Resort Convention Center at the Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol, Philippines on September 30, 2021, earning her the Miss Universe Philippines Charity 2021 title.
Shortly after the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 coronation night, Vincent was offered to be Miss Universe New Zealand 2021. A week later, she declined the offer.
On October 11, 2021, Vincent appeared on “It’s Showtime” with Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez, 26, of Cebu City, Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2021 Katrina Dimaranan, 28, of Taguig City and Miss Universe Philippines 2021 runners-up Steffi Aberasturi, 27, of Cebu Province and Maureen Wroblewitz, 23, of Pangasinan. On October 12, 2021, Vincent took to Instagram to explain why she had to decline the offer to be Miss Universe New Zealand 2021.
Vincent still has two years to earn a chance to compete in any of the six biggest international beauty pageants namely Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Earth, Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International.
In 2022, Vincent may compete at Binibining Pilipinas 2022, where she could earn the right to represent the Philippines at Miss International 2023, Miss Grand International 2022, Miss Intercontinental 2022 or Miss Globe 2022.
If Vincent competes at Miss Philippines Earth 2022, there is a big chance she will earn not only the national title but also the Miss Earth 2022 crown. Given her expertise as an architect and a heritage conservationist, she could be the best Miss Earth in history.
Another option for Vincent is to compete at Miss World Philippines 2022. If she wins but fails to earn the Miss World 2022 crown, she can have her final beauty pageant year at Miss Universe Philippines 2023.
