Maria Thattil, 26, of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia competed against 29 other Miss Universe Australia 2020 candidates in a virtual coronation ceremony on October 28, 2020. She won the title.
Runner-up to Thattil was Miné Coetser, 18, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Tash Galgut, 22, of Sydney, Maddison Coluccio, 23, of Sydney and Daria Varlamova, 25, of Bryansk.

On October 19, 2021, Thattil will crown her successor at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins in Melbourne. It is be the 17th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Australia’s Miss Universe candidate.

On July 29, 1972, Wells was crowned Miss Universe 1972. Representing Australia, she competed against 60 other candidates at the Cerromar Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico, United States.
On June 1, 2004, Hawkins was crowned Miss Universe 2004. Representing Australia, she competed against 79 other candidates at the Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones Mitad del Mundo (CEMEXPO) in Quito, Ecuador.
On May 16, 2021, Thattil represented Australia at Miss Universe 2020 and competed against 73 other candidates at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, United States. She finished in the Top 10.
