Who is the incumbent attorney general of Virginia?

Mark Rankin Herring is the 47th and incumbent attorney general of Virginia. He assumed office on January 11, 2014.

Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, USA, Herring moved to Leesburg, Virginia in 1973. He earned his bachelor’s degree in foreign affairs and economics and master’s degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law.

Herring served as the town attorney for Lovettsville, Virginia from 1992 to 1999. He was first elected as the attorney general of Virginia on November 12, 2013 and was reelected on November 7, 2017.
