Samir Handal of Haiti was arrested in Turkey on November 14, 2021. He was on his way from the United States to Jordan.
That day, Handal just arrived on a Turkish Airlines flight from Miami, Florida, USA. He was detained at the airport in Istanbul, Turkey.
Handal is a businessman who allegedly has links to Christian Emmanuel Sanon, 63, a Haitian doctor arrested on July 11, 2021 in connection to the assassination of Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2021 in Pétion-Ville, Ouest, Haiti. Moïse served as the president of Haiti from February 7, 2017 until his death.
Moïse died at the age of 53. Sanon, a U.S. citizen and Florida resident, allegedly served as a middleman to the unnamed masterminds of the Haitian president’s assassination.
More than 40 suspects have been detained. Among the suspects on the run, Handal is the second one to be arrested.
The first one was former Colombian military officer Mario Antonio Palacios Palacios, 43, who was arrested in Kingston, Jamaica on October 21, 2021. Among the suspects still on the run are John Joël Joseph, Joseph Félix Badio and Wendelle Coq Thélot.
While Handal was hiding in Miami, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued an international arrest warrant for him. After his arrest, he was placed under a 40-day temporary custody in a prison in Istanbul.
Details about Handal’s direct involvement in the assassination of Moïse are still not available. Why the Haitian businessman was flying to Jordan was not immediately revealed.

Real Fact: Laurent Lamothe had a problem with Samir Handal, he wanted to confiscate the businessman building that was rented to the ministry of planification. Handal refused to give him the property that he wanted to seize for himself. Lamothe who was Prime Minister at the time started harassing Samir Handal for property taxes. Handal proved to Lamothe that all taxes were duly paid according to the law. Then, Lamothe started harassing him about his Haitian nationality. Handal told Lamothe, that he was a legally naturalized Haitian citizen under President Henry Namphy.
Claude Joseph is Lamothe’s toy, his puppy dog, and people believe that this is a personal vendetta. It has nothing to do with Justice. As a matter of fact, Lamothe has been writing bad things about Samir Handal on Social networks.
