The Republic of Uganda is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa. Located in the African Great Lakes, the country lies within the Nile basin and is bordered by South Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west and Tanzania to the south.
Uganda is named after the Buganda kingdom. On October 9, 1962, the country achieved its independence from the United Kingdom.
Yoweri Museveni, 77, is the ninth and incumbent president of Uganda. He assumed office on January 29, 1986.
