The Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands is a French overseas collectivity in Oceania. Located in the South Pacific, the territory is between Tuvalu to the northwest, Tokelau to the northeast, Samoa to the east, Tonga to the southeast and Fiji to the southwest.
French is the official language in Wallis and Futuna, which separated from New Caledonia on July 29, 1961. On March 28, 2003, Wallis and Futuna became a French overseas collectivity.
Hervé Jonathan, 60, assumed office as the administrator superior of Wallis and Futuna on January 11, 2021. On November 26, 2020, Nivaleta Iloai became the first female territorial assembly president of Wallis and Futuna.
