Antigua and Barbuda is a sovereign island country in North America. Aside from the major islands namely Antigua and Barbuda, the country also has smaller islands namely Great Bird, Green, Guiana, Long, Maiden, Prickly Pear, Redonda and York Islands.
Lying between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, Antigua and Barbuda is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The country is a member of the Commonwealth with Elizabeth II, 95, as its queen and head of state.
After achieving its independence from the United Kingdom on November 1, 1981, Antigua and Barbuda was admitted to the United Nations on November 11, 1981. Antigua and Barbuda’s incumbent and fourth governor-general Rodney Williams, 74, assumed office on August 14, 2014.
