Lebanon is home to Miss Universe 1971 Georgina Rizk and Miss International 2002 Christina Sawaya. The country is located between Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south while Cyprus lies to its west across the Mediterranean Sea.
November 22, 1943 marked the end of the French Mandate over Lebanon, which joined the United Nations on October 24, 1945 as one of its founding member states. Israeli troops were withdrawn from Lebanon on May 24, 2000 and Syrian troops followed suit on April 30, 2005.
Michel Aoun, 88, is the incumbent and 13th president of Lebanon. He assumed office on October 31, 2016.
