The Principality of Monaco is a sovereign city-state and a microstate in Western Europe. Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, the principality is bordered by France to the north, the east and the west.

Signed on February 2, 1861, the Franco-Monégasque Treaty officially recognized Monaco’s sovereignty. On May 28, 1993, the principality was admitted to the United Nations.
