Southeast Asia has 11 countries namely Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. All of these countries are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) except East Timor, which is an observer state of the organization.
Geographically, Southeast Asia is divided into two subregions. Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam are in the mainland part while Brunei, East Malaysia, East Timor, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore are in the maritime part.
