Asron Marquis Sellers, 21, of Newport News, Virginia, United States has been arrested. He was charged with one count of malicious wounding, one count of shooting in an occupied vehicle, one count of attempted robbery and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
On the evening of January 23, 2022, Sellers met with an acquaintance on West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton, Virginia. The acquaintance, who is a transgender woman, had arranged to meet him with the intention of engaging in sexual activity, according to Hampton Police Department.

After getting into an argument, Sellers allegedly shot the transgender woman. She sustained gunshot wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
Police did not believe Sellers targeted the victim because she is transgender. Her name was not released.
On January 29, 2022, Sellers was arrested in Newport News by the Hampton Police Department with the help of the Newport News Police Department and the U.S. Marshals. He is being held at the Newport News City Jail and is expected to be transferred to the Hampton City Jail.
