Carlos Mäder, 43, is the sole representative of Ghana at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.
Born in Cape Coast, Ghana, Mäder was adopted by a Swiss family, who maintained contact with his biological mother. He grew up in Switzerland and started skiing in 1981 on the slopes of Mörlialp, a ski area in Giswil, Switzerland.

Mäder represented Ghana in the 2019 World Ski Championships in Åre, Sweden. He will compete in men’s giant slalom at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In January 2022, Mäder qualified for the 2022 Winter Olympics by finishing fifth at the Cape Verde and Jamaica national championships. Also known as Kojo Benya Brown and Carlos Brown, he is the third athlete from Ghana to compete in the Winter Olympics following Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong in 2010 and Akwasi Frimpong in 2018.
In July 2015, Beijing was elected as the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.
Including Mäder, a total of 2,871 athletes from 91 countries and territories will compete in 109 events in seven sports. The events will be held not only in Beijing but also in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.
