Kjetil Jansrud, 36, and Kristin Skaslien, 36, are two of the 84 athletes representing Norway at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.

Including China and Norway, there are 91 countries and territories participating in the event. At the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in July 2015, Beijing was elected as the event’s host city, marking the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.

On February 4, 2022, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at Beijing National Stadium in Beijing. The final seven torchbearers mounted the torch itself into the center of a stylized snowflake that was constructed from placards bearing the names of the delegations competing in the event.

Jansrud and Skaslien served as Norway’s flagbearers during the opening ceremony. The former will compete in alpine skiing while the latter will compete in curling, particularly in mixed doubles tournament along with Magnus Nedregotten, 31.

Hailing from Oslo, Norway, Skaslien led Norway’s team at the 2009 Mount Titlis World Women’s Curling Championship in Gangneung, South Korea, the 2010 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship in Swift Current, Canada, the 2011 Capital One World Women’s Curling Championship in Esbjerg, Denmark and the 2015 World Women’s Curling Championship in Sapporo, Japan. She and Nedregotten represented Norway in mixed doubles in the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Born in Stavanger, Norway, Jansrud won the super-G and finished third in the downhill at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He won gold in the downhill at the 2019 World Championships in Åre, Jämtland, Sweden.

Including Jansrud, Skaslien, Nedregotten and 81 other Norwegian athletes, a total of 2,871 athletes will compete in 109 events in seven sports. The events will be held not only in Beijing but also in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.

Beijing is the largest city to host the Winter Olympics. It is also the first city to have hosted both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics.
