Ormond Beach, Florida’s Colin Boyer blames having a bad day for school shooting threats

Colin Boyer, 18, of Ormond Beach, Florida, United States has been arrested. He is a senior student of Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach, Florida.

At 2:25 a.m. on February 7, 2022, Father Lopez Catholic High School administrators received an anonymous email from a concerned student, containing two videos of Boyer making vague threats about a shooting at the school. Hours later, a representative from the school contacted the Daytona Beach Police Department in reference to the threat Boyer made.

At around 7:00 a.m., Ormond Beach Police Department officers went to Boyer’s house and spoke with him and his parents. The teenager told the officers that he made the videos in his room while playing video games with his friends online and added that he had an issue with a school administrator. 

The videos circulated among Father Lopez Catholic High School students via Snapchat. In one of the videos, Boyer says, “I can have the gang, a whole bunch of just people in cars and (expletive), just pull up and then just shoot, just shoot up.”

According to Boyer, he made those videos because he was having a “bad day” but he had no intention of carrying out the threats. He was arrested and charged with a felony for written or electronic threats to kill or injure.

“I am very proud of the individual(s) that came forward and reported this incident,” Ormond Beach Police Department chief Jesse Godfrey said in a statement obtained by the Ormond Beach Observer. “The suspect in this case was quickly identified, contacted, interviewed and appropriately charged in this situation.”

Established in 1959, Father Lopez Catholic High School is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando. The school was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Larry Hogan, 65, and Colin Castleton, 21, attended Father Lopez Catholic High School. Hogan is the incumbent and 62nd governor of Maryland, USA while Castleton has been playing basketball for the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, USA since 2020.
