There are 50 Miss Universe Philippines 2022 quarterfinalists competing for the 30 spots in the semifinals in the coronation night, which held be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 30, 2022. On April 3, 2022, the quarterfinalists faced the interview challenge.
Each quarterfinalist was given 30 seconds to answer each question. These were the questions:
- It’s been two years since the pandemic. What is life for you now?
- What qualities do you look for in a president?
- What is uniquely beautiful place or thing about your hometown that you want to tell people about?
For me, an ideal beauty pageant answer is sincere, unrehearsed, direct to the point, specific, inspirational, personalized. I feel happy to see that in general, the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 quarterfinalists answered the three interview questions much better than their International Women’s Day question on March 8, 2022.
Question 1 gave a good opportunity for the ladies to talk about their personal pandemic experiences, whether or not they spent it in the place they are representing, then end it with a short and sweet inspirational message. However, some of them spent 30 seconds giving general advice about life and left us clueless about how they survived amid life in lockdown.
There really is no correct answer for Question 2 because it is looking for personal preferences. For me, those who enumerated three qualities in their first sentence and explained every quality sufficiently within 30 seconds deserve the highest scores. That is not a simple thing to do given the time limit and the candidates were not given time to prepare.
Unique and beautiful are the two keywords in Question 3. Most of the candidates mentioned unique tourist destinations but some of them forgot to mention what makes those places beautiful. Unfortunately, some candidates mentioned traits of the residents that are, of course, beautiful but not unique. Hospitality is not unique to any town, city, province, country or continent.
I scored the 2022 Miss Universe Philippines quarterfinalists’ answers to the three interview questions with 30 points each for Questions 1 and 3 and 40 points for Question 2. These are my Top 13 candidates for this challenge:
