The election of the Philippines’ 17th president will be on May 9, 2022. The campaign period for nationally elected positions started on February 8, 2022 and will end on May 7, 2022.
2022 Philippine presidential candidates
This marks the 17th direct presidential election in the Philippines since 1935. It is the country’s sixth sextennial presidential election since 1992.
The Philippines’ 16th and incumbent president Rodrigo Duterte, 77, assumed office on June 30, 2016. His successor will assume office on June 30, 2022.

Marcos was born in Santa Mesa, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines to Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr. and Imelda Remedios Visitación Trinidad Romuáldez Marcos. Ferdinand Sr. was born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines while Imelda was born in San Miguel, Manila.
Ferdinand Sr. was the Philippines’ secretary of national defense from August 28, 1971 to January 3, 1972, prime minister from June 12, 1978 to June 30, 1981 and president from December 30, 1965 to February 25, 1986. He turned 72 on September 11, 1989 and died in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States on September 28, 1989.
On September 13, 2021, Bongbong turned 64. On April 23, 2022, Robredo turned 57.
Born in Naga, Camarines Sur, Philippines, Robredo served as the congresswoman of the third district of the province from June 30, 2013 to June 30, 2016. On June 30, 2016, she assumed office as the vice president of the country.
