Makati’s Michelle Dee is Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2022, crowned in Pasay City


Michelle Daniela Marquez Dee, 26, of Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines is Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2022, the second highest title at Miss Universe Philippines 2022. She was crowned at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on April 30, 2022.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere and Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters hosted the coronation night. The ceremony also featured performances by Filipino singers Bamboo Mañalac, Sam Concepcion, Francisco Martin, Arthur Nery, Morissette and JM Bales.

“What is your greatest fear and how do you try to overcome it?” was the question for Dee in the final question-and-answer portion. She answered, “Honestly, my greatest fear is making a fool out of myself sometimes but I conquer that by always putting myself in that kind of situations.”

“Actually, just joining a pageant was something that I was very scared about because of the pressure but I’m standing here in front of you hoping to be your next Miss Universe so I can make my country proud once again,” Dee continued, “Ang minamahal kong Pilipinas (My beloved Philippines), (this is for you).” 


Reigning Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu served as a judge. Joining her in the judging panel were Francis Padua Papica, Tonee Co See, Margarita Gutierrez, Richelle Singson Michael, Sam Versoza, Lia Andrea Moss, RS Francisco, Jennifer Olay and Joshua Sorrentino.

Among the 31 candidates, Dee received the second highest score from the judges while Pauline Cucharo Amelinckx, 26, of Bohol, Philippines, who ranked third, was crowned Miss Universe Philippines Charity 2022. They both received non-competing titles.

The top scorer was Silvia Celeste Rabimbi Cortesi, 24, of Pasay City, who was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2022. She will represent the Philippines in the 71st edition of Miss Universe.

Dee was born in Makati City to actor and businessman Frederick “Derek” Dee and Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez. Michelle earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from De La Salle University in Manila, Metro Manila.

Growing up with two siblings diagnosed with autism, Michelle started publicly advocating for autism awareness and mental health education in 2011. In January 2020, she became the Goodwill Ambassador for the Autism Society Philippines.

Representing Makati City, Michelle was crowned Miss World Philippines 2019 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila on September 15, 2019. Representing the Philippines, she competed against 110 other candidates at Miss World 2019 at the ExCel London in London, England on December 14, 2019 and finished in the Top 12.
