Maria Katrina Llegado, 24, of Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines almost won Miss Universe Philippines 2022. She competed against 30 other candidates.
Hosted by Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere and Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 coronation night was held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 30, 2022. The ceremony featured performances by Filipino singers Bamboo Mañalac, Sam Concepcion, Francisco Martin, Arthur Nery, Morissette and JM Bales.
“If you could teach Filipinos one thing, what would it be and why?” was the question for Llegado in the final question-and-answer portion. She answered, “It would be start loving yourself.”
“Me as a person, I have a lot of flaws,” Llegado continued. “I am not perfect and I may not be the perfect Miss Universe but I am here trying to conquer my fear, trying to be a better person and pageant really helped me to be a transformed woman, to be truly, uniquely beautiful and I think that is what I’d be having in Miss Universe. That is my greatest… Thank you.”
Reigning Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu served as a judge. Joining her in the judging panel were Francis Padua Papica, Tonee Co See, Margarita Gutierrez, Richelle Singson Michael, Sam Versoza, Lia Andrea Moss, RS Francisco, Jennifer Olay and Joshua Sorrentino.
Among the 31 candidates, Llegado received the fifth highest score from the judges, making her the second runner-up. Annabelle Mae Tate McDonnell, 21, of Misamis Oriental, Philippines ranked fourth, making her the first runner-up.
The top scorer was Silvia Celeste Rabimbi Cortesi, 24, of Pasay City, who was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2022. She will represent the Philippines in the 71st edition of Miss Universe.
Michelle Daniela Marquez Dee, 26, of Makati City, Metro Manila ranked second while Pauline Cucharo Amelinckx, 26, of Bohol, Philippines ranked third. They were crowned Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2022 and Miss Universe Philippines Charity 2022, respectively, which are both non-competing titles.
Llegado is a banker. In 2017, she graduated cum laude from De La Salle University in Manila, Metro Manila with a bachelor’s degree in financial management.
In April 2018, Llegado started working as a Citi financial reporting analyst. In the same month, she competed at Mutya ng Taguig 2018 and finished as a finalist.
On September 15, 2019, Llegado competed against 39 other candidates at Miss World Philippines 2019 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She ranked third and was crowned Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2019.
On February 8, 2020, Llegado represented the Philippines at Reina Hispanoamericana 2019 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. She was fifth runner-up.
