Apayao is one of the six provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region of the Philippines. The province has seven municipalities namely Calanasan, Conner, Flora, Kabugao, Luna, Pudtol and Santa Marcela.

Eleonor “Leah” Cayaba Bulut Begtang served as the mayor of Calanasan from June 30, 2001 to June 30, 2010 and the congresswoman of Apayao from June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2019. She assumed office as the governor of the province on June 30, 2019.

Born in Ballesteros, Cagayan, Philippines, Begtang turned 58 on February 28, 2022. Her brother Elias “Butzy” C. Bulut Jr. served as the governor of the province from June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2019, assumed office as the congressman of the province on June 30, 2019 and will assume office again as the governor of the province on June 30, 2022.

Born in Baguio, Philippines, Butzy will turn 52 on May 15, 2022. On June 30, 2022, he will assume office as the governor of Abra and Begtang will assume office as the congresswoman of the province.

Baguio is the only independent city in the Cordillera Administrative Region. The other provinces in the region are Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province.

On June 18, 1966, Mountain Province was divided into four provinces namely Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga-Apayao and Ifugao. On February 14, 1995, Kalinga-Apayao was divided into two provinces namely Kalinga and Apayao.
