Occidental Mindoro is one of the five provinces of the Mimaropa region of the Philippines. The others are Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan and Romblon.

Occidental Mindoro has 11 municipalities namely Abra de Ilog, Calintaan, Looc, Lubang, Magsaysay, Mamburao, Paluan, Rizal, Sablayan, San Jose and Santa Cruz. The municipalities have 164 barangays, 15 of which are in Mamburao, the capital of the province.

Born in Sablayan, Eduardo Baltazar Gadiano has been the governor of Occidental Mindoro since June 30, 2019. He was the mayor of the municipality from June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2019.
