Catanduanes is one of the six provinces of the Bicol region of the Philippines. The others are Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate and Sorsogon.
Founded on September 26, 1945, Catanduanes has 11 municipalities namely Bagamanoc, Baras, Bato, Caramoran, Gigmoto, Pandan, Panganiban, San Andres, San Miguel, Viga and Virac. Collectively, these municipalities have 315 barangays, 63 of which are in Virac, the capital of the province.
Every October, the Catandungan Festival is held in Virac. On April 15, 2022, Catanduanes officially became the abacá capital of the Philippines.

On June 9, 2019, Louisielle Denise Omorog represented Catanduanes at Binibining Pilipinas 2019 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She finished in the Top 25.
On October 25, 2020, Sigrid Grace Flores represented Catanduanes at Miss Universe Philippines 2020 and competed against 45 other candidates at the Cordillera Convention Center of Baguio Country Club in Baguio, Philippines. She was unplaced.
