Davao Occidental is one of the five provinces in the Davao Region of the Philippines. The others are Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.
Founded on October 28, 2013, Davao Occidental has five municipalities namely Don Marcelino, Jose Abad Santos, Malita, Santa Maria and Sarangani. The municipalities collectively have 105 barangays.
Franklin “Colin” Peralta Bautista was the mayor of Malita from February 2, 1988 to June 30, 1998 and from June 30, 2001 to June 30, 2007. He was the congressman of the second district of Davao del Sur from June 30, 1998 to June 30, 2001 and from June 30, 2007 to June 30, 2016.
Bautista assumed office as the vice governor of Davao Occidental on June 30, 2016 and will assume office as the governor of the province on June 30, 2022. He turned 70 on April 1, 2022.
