Surigao del Sur is one of the five provinces of the Caraga Administrative Region of the Philippines. The others are Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, the Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.

Founded on June 19, 1960, Surigao del Sur has two component cities namely Bislig and Tandag. The province also has 17 municipalities namely Barobo, Bayabas, Cagwait, Cantilan, Carmen, Carrascal, Cortes, Hinatuan, Lanuza, Lianga, Lingig, Madrid, Marihatag, San Agustin, San Miguel, Tagbina and Tago.

Born in Tandag, Johnny Ty Pimentel has been the congressman of the second district of Surigao del Sur since June 30, 2016. He turned 66 on March 29, 2022.
