Edgar Ivan Galindo Diaz, 35, of Apple Valley, Victor Valley, San Bernardino County, California, United States owns a 2021 Polaris RZR, an orange side-by-side utility terrain vehicle. Traveling eastbound on Stoddard Wells Road in Victorville, Victor Valley on July 2, 2022, he was driving the UTV, which struck a 2019 TaoTao all-terrain vehicle.

Jacob Victor Martinez, 12, of Moreno Valley, Riverside County, California was driving the ATV, which was traveling in a northeasterly direction, with Christina Bird, 11, of Huntington Beach, Orange County, California as a passenger. The two kids were close friends.

At 8:55 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers from Victorville responded to the off-road vehicle collision. At 9:28 p.m., Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bird was transported to the Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, San Bernardino County. At 8:50 a.m. on July 6, 2022, she was taken off life support at the hospital after doctors pronounced her brain dead.

On July 7, 2022, a search warrant was served at Galindo’s residence in Apple Valley. Nobody was home but the UTV involved in the collision was recovered.

On July 12, 2022, Galindo turned himself into authorities at the CHP station in Victorville. He was arrested and booked for felony hit and run.

Apple Valley was incorporated on November 28, 1988. It is governed by a town council and its mayor changes every December.

The town is home to “American Idol” Season 19 winner Chayce Beckham, 25. He was born in Victorville.
