Passaic, New Jersey cop Edgar Delgado charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto

Edgar Delgado, 31, was born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey, United States. He was employed as a Passaic Police Department officer.

Under the influence of alcohol, Delgado allegedly recklessly operated his vehicle, which was involved in a multi-vehicle collision in the area of Central Avenue and Yereance Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey on the early morning of July 29, 2022. The vehicle was disabled after striking an unoccupied parked vehicle.

After the crash, the Passaic Police Department officer, who was off-duty at the time, allegedly left the scene. Later that day, he was arrested.

A woman, 28, of Clifton, who was in the vehicle with Delgado, was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey for treatment. Her name was not released.

Delgado was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree assault by auto causing serious bodily injury within 1000 feet of school property, third-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, third-degree endangering an injured victim and third-degree hindering apprehension. He appeared before the Honorable John Abdelhadi, J.M.C at Central Judicial Processing Court.

Passaic was incorporated on April 2, 1873. The city’s only land border is with Clifton.
