Sakiyna Thompson, 28, of Springfield Gardens, Queens, New York City, New York, United States was born in Jamaica. She is accused of killing Kayla Hodgson, 23, of Tamarac, Broward County, Florida, USA at the Tamarac Village Apartments in Tamarac at around 3:00 p.m. on July 13, 2022.

Hodgson was reportedly dating Thompson’s former boyfriend. The name of the boyfriend has yet to be released.
The Tamarac woman was a well-known bottle waitress in South Florida, according to her friend and former employer Swana Alphonse. The latter told NBC Miami that the former “was just really sweet”.
“She was the life of the party,” Alphonse said of Hodgson. “She always had kind words.”
Thompson allegedly stabbed Hodgson with a sharp object with a premeditated intent to cause death in the residence of the latter at the Tamarac Village Apartments. The suspect was reportedly demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life.

On July 25, 2022, a warrant was issued for Thompson’s arrest. On August 3, 2022, New York City Police Department officers arrested her in Springfield Gardens.
Thompson was charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island, New York City. She is expected to be extradited back to Broward County to face the charge.

Rikers Island is named after Abraham Rycken, a Dutch man who moved to Long Island, New York in 1638. He took possession of the island in 1664.
In 1884, Rikers Islands was sold to New York City for $180,000. Aside from the Rose M. Singer Center, there are several other facilities located on the island including the Anna M. Kross Center, the George Motchan Detention Center, the North Infirmary Command, the Otis Bantum Correctional Center and the Robert N. Davoren Complex.
