Bahja Mohamoud biography: 13 things about Miss World Somalia 2022


Bahja Mohamoud is a Somalian entrepreneur, crypto consultant and beauty queen. Originally from Beledweyne, Somalia, she grew up in London, England and when Mahamoud was in middle school, she moved to Minnesota, United States.

With a particular interest in healthcare within the Somali community, Mahamoud grew up with a very early passion for medicine, mental health awareness and education. She was a teenager when she launched her first business, a chemical dependency clinic that had the goal of reducing the stigma of mental health conditions and co-occurring drug addiction in her community in Minnesota.

Mahamoud plays the piano and the violin and she enjoys cooking, swimming, boating and volunteering at animal shelters. Here are 13 more things about her:


  1. In September 2013, she started volunteering at Children’s Minnesota in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota as a surgery coordinator.
  2. From June 2015 to August 2016, she volunteered as an international humanitarian teacher at American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa (ARAHA), a non-profit organization based in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. She taught English to children at the Kakuma refugee camps in Kenya where she also assisted in the digging of wells and the construction of a small school.
  3. From 2016 to 2017, she attended John F. Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Minnesota.
  4. From May 2017 to August 2019, she was the director of Mothers Love Childcare Centre in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, which she co-owned.
  5. In September 2017, she entered the University of Saint Thomas in St. Paul to study pursue a bachelor’s degree in finance on a pre-medicine track.
  6. From December 2017 to August 2020, she was the chief executive officer of Axis Behavioral Health in St. Cloud, which she co-owned.
  7. From January 2018 to December 2020, she was a surgical assistant at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
  8. In March 2020, she started working as a cryptocurrency trader in Minneapolis.
  9. From August 2020 to August 2021, she was a mental health associate at Beacon Specialized Living in Minnesota.
  10. From May 2021 to September 2021, she was a community specialist at Gateway Unlimited Living in Burnsville, Minnesota.
  11. In April 2022, she joined Cryptic Investing as the head of finance and business development.
  12. She was 22 years old when she was officially appointed as Miss World Somalia 2022 on September 6, 2022.
  13. She will represent Somalia at Miss World 2022. She is the second Miss World candidate from Somalia following Khadija Omar, who finished in the Top 13 at Miss World 2021.
