Iga Świątek is a Polish professional tennis player. She stands 5’9″ and is right-handed.

Świątek was born in Warsaw, Poland to Olympic rower Tomasz Świątek and physician Dorota Świątek. Tomasz wanted Iga and her older sister Agata Świątek, a former tennis player, to become competitive athletes.

Iga is a cat lover. She loves listening to rock music and she is a fan of the hard rock band Guns N’ Roses, which is from Los Angeles, California, United States, and the Australian rock band AC/DC.

In high school, Iga’s favorite subject was math. Among her tennis coaches are Michał Kaznowski, Piotr Sierzputowski, Nick Brown and Daria Abramowicz.

In 2020, Iga became the first ever Grand Slam singles champion from Poland. Here are 13 things about her:

1. In 2015, she trained at the Mera-Warsaw Tennis Club in Warsaw. She eventually moved to Legia Warsaw, which is also in the capital city of Poland. In the same year, she started competing in International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit events, won back-to-back low-level Grade 4 titles, moved up to Grade 2 events and finished runner-up at the Czech Junior Open in both singles and doubles.
2. When she competed at the 120th French Open at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France from May 22, 2016 to June 5, 2016, she finished in the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles. It was her junior Grand Slam debut.
3. She and her fellow Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska were the runner-up in the girls’ doubles at the 105th Australian Open, which was held at the Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia from January 16-29, 2020. In the final, they lost to Bianca Andreescu and Carson Branstine of Canada.
4. She and Caty McNally of the U.S. were the girls’ doubles champion at the 122nd French Open, which was held at the Stade Roland Garros from May 27, 2018 to June 10, 2018.
5. She was the girls’ singles champion at the 132nd Wimbledon Championships, which was held from July 2-15, 2018 in Wimbledon, London, England, United Kingdom.
6. She won a doubles gold medal for Poland with Kaja Juvan of Slovenia at the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, which was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6-18, 2018.
7. At the 128th edition of the Canadian Open for women, which was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from August 5-11, 2019, she defeated Shelby Rogers of the U.S., Heather Watson of the U.K., Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark before losing to Naomi Osaka of Japan in the women’s singles.
8. From February 24, 2020 to March 1, 2020 in Doha, Qatar at the Qatar Total Open, she defeated Donna Vekic of Croatia before losing to Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia.
9. At the 140th U.S. Open, held in Flushing Meadow, New York, USA from August 31, 2020 to September 13, 2020, she defeated Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Sachia Vickery of the U.S. before losing to Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the women’s singles.
10. Right after graduating from high school, she won the 2020 French Open women’s singles in Paris, France on October 11, 2020.
11. She was a 2021 French Open semifinalist. She finished in the fourth round of 2021 Australian Open, 2021 Wimbledon and 2021 US Open women’s singles. On October 10, 2021, she donated $50,000 of her prize money in support of World Mental Health Day.
12. She was a 2022 Australian Open semifinalist. On June 4, 2022, she won the 2022 French Open women’s singles in Paris. On September 10, 2022, she won 2022 US Open women’s singles in New York City, New York.
13. She was 21 years old when she won 2023 French Open women’s singles on June 10, 2023 in Paris.
