Angelica Carrasquillo-Torres, 25, of Griffith, Lake County, Indiana, United States worked as a fifth grade teacher at St. Stanislaus Catholic Elementary School in East Chicago, Lake County. On October 12, 2022, she allegedly told one of her students that she has a list and the student was on the bottom of the list.
At around 12:45 p.m., the student told a counselor that Carrasquillo-Torres made comments about ending the lives of students and staff at the school and hers. Because of this, she was removed from the classroom and escorted to the principal’s office.
At the principal’s office, Carrasquillo-Torres confirmed to school officials what the student reported. While she did not provide the list in question, she named a specific student on the list.
After the confession, the principal advised Carrasquillo-Torres to leave and not return to school pending an investigation. She left the school and went home before the school contacted the East Chicago Police Department.
At around 5:00 p.m., East Chicago Police Department officers were dispatched to speak with the school’s principal and assistant principal in reference to the threatening report. The department’s Criminal Investigations Division later obtained from the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office an emergency detention order for Carrasquillo-Torres.
At around 11:15 a.m. on October 13, 2022, East Chicago Police Department arrested Carrasquillo-Torres without incident at her home in Griffith. She was charged with intimidation in a threat to commit a forcible felony.
