Yanelly Solorio-Rivera and Celine Sofia Solorio-Rivera Zavala of Fresno, San Joaquin Valley, California, United States have died. Yanelly was 18.
On September 3, 2022, Yanelly gave birth to Zavala. Yanelly’s sister Yarelly Solorio-Rivera, 22, is the girlfriend of validated gang member Martin Arroyo-Morales, 26.
Both Yarelly and Arroyo-Morales also live in Fresno. On the morning of September 24, 2022, they went to Yanelly’s residence in Fresno.
Multiple shots were fired inside the residence that morning. Yanelly was asleep while holding Zavala when they were both shot.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel pronounced Yanelly and Zavala dead on scene. Authorities had suspicions that Yarelly and Arroyo-Morales were involved in the fatal shootings but did not have sufficient evidence for an arrest at the time.
Arroyo-Morales and Yarelly were arrested on November 7, 2022 and on November 7, 2022, respectively. They were each charged with two counts of murder with special circumstances for multiple victims and are each held on $2 million bail.
After their arrests, Arroyo-Morales and Yarelly confessed to killing Yanelly and Zavala using a 9mm Smith & Wesson. Jealousy and sibling rivalry were the motive, according to Fresno Police Department chief Paco Balderrama.
