Miss Universe is considered the top international beauty pageant in the world. It is one of the grand slam international beauty pageants along with Miss World, Miss International, Miss Earth, Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International.
Before winning Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray, 28, of the Philippines finished in the Top 5 at Miss World 2016. Before winning Miss Universe 2020, Andrea Meza, 28, of Mexico was runner-up to Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, 25, of India.
Not everyone gets to be a beauty queen and not every beauty queen gets to compete in two grand slam international beauty pageants in two consecutive years. Andrea Aguilera, 26, of Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia is one of the few women who were able to experience this.
For Aguilera, being born in Colombia is a privilege and a blessing. She is proud of her home country’s immense natural wealth, including its diversity of species of flora and fauna, ecosystems, mountains, rivers, seas, culture and traditions.
Growing up in a very artistic and active environment, Aguilera is a trained vocalist who was part of a choir for six years. She created her own songs, learned to read sheet music and played different instruments.
On August 14, 2021, Aguilera represented Antioquia and competed against 25 other candidates at Miss Mundo Colombia 2021 in Bogota, Colombia. The Medellin resident won the title.
In December 2021, Aguilera represented Colombia at Miss World 2021, competed against 96 other candidates in San Juan, Puerto Rico and was selected as one of the 40 quarterfinalists. She finished in the Top 13 during the coronation night at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan on March 16, 2022.
On November 29, 2022, Aguilera represented Colombia at Miss Earth 2022 and competed against 85 other candidates at Okada Manila in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was third runner-up to Mina Sue Choi, 24, of Incheon, South Korea and was crowned Miss Earth-Fire 2022.
