Bolivia is named after Simón Bolívar, who served as its first president from August 6, 1825 to December 29, 1825. It is bordered by Brazil to the north and east, Peru to the northwest, Paraguay to the southeast, Chile to the southwest and Argentina to the south.
On August 6, 1925, Bolivia declared its independence from Spain, which was recognized on July 21, 1847. On November 14, 1945, Bolivia was admitted to the United Nations.
Luis “Lucho” Arce, 59, is the incumbent and 67th president of Bolivia. He assumed office on November 8, 2020.
