Miss Universe Malta was won by Tiffany Pisani in 2017, Francesca Mifsud in 2018, Teresa Rugio in 2019, Anthea Zammit in 2020 and Jade Cini in 2021. Second runner-up to Cini was Maxine Formosa.
On April 10, 2022, Formosa was appointed Miss Universe Malta 2022. On January 14, 2023, she represented Malta at Miss Universe 2022 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.
Formosa competed against 83 other candidates. She was unplaced but she was one of the two recipients of the Miss Congeniality award.
Miss Universe Malta 2023
On June 30, 2023, Formosa will crown her successor at the Hilton Conference Centre in Saint Julian’s, Malta. It is the seventh edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Malta’s Miss Universe candidate.

Malta has yet to have a Miss Universe placement. The European country was represented in the international beauty pageant by the winner of Miss Malta from 1968 to 1988 and from 1995 to 2001 and the winner of Miss Republic of Malta from 1989 to 1994 before going on hiatus from 2002 to 2015.
From 2002 to 2015, Malta was not represented in Miss Universe. Under the directorship of Alan J. Darmanin, the first edition of Miss Universe Malta was held in 2016 and won by Martha Fenech.
