Deion Duwane Patterson is an American man from Georgia, United States. On May 3, 2023, his mother Minyone Marie Patterson accompanied him at Northside Hospital Medical Midtown in Midtown, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia for an appointment seeking new treatment after being dissatisfied with the care he was receiving from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Patterson became agitated when doctors would not give him the anti-anxiety drug Ativan, according to Patterson. At around 12:37 p.m., he allegedly opened fire in the hospital’s waiting room, fatally shooting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employee Amy Wald St. Pierre, 39, and injuring Jazzmin Daniel, 25, Alesha Marie Hollinger, 48, Lisa Williams Glynn, 56, and Georgette Davidson Whitlow, 71. 

After the shooting, Patterson allegedly hijacked a white Toyota Tacoma, dumped the car in in a parking garage along Heritage Court near The Battery Atlanta in Atlanta and fled on foot. Here are 13 more things about him:

  1. He is a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard, the maritime security, search and rescue and law enforcement service branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  2. He is Karen Henderson‘s nephew.
  3. He holds fishing and hunting licenses in Georgia, USA.

  11. Just before 8:00 p.m. on May 3, 2023, he was arrested in the pool area of an apartment complex on Killarney Drive in Cobb County, Georgia. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta.
  12. On May 4, 2023, he waived his first court appearance.
  13. He was 24 years old when he was indicted on July 27, 2023. Represented by a team from the Georgia Public Defender Council led by attorney Shawn Hoover, he was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the shooting three counts of attempted battery, four counts of attempted murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
