Sai Varshith Kandula, 19, of St. Louis, Missouri, United States is of Indian descent. With experience and certification in coding languages and programming, he wanted to become a data analyst.

In 2022, Kandula graduated from Marquette Senior High School in Chesterfield, Missouri. While in high school, he was on the student counsel and he played tennis.

Kandula was interested not only in a career in data analytics. He also admired Nazi, which for him had a great history, authoritarian nature, eugenics and one world order.

For months, Kandula planned to seize power from the U.S. government. Recently, he flew from St. Louis to Virginia, USA on a one-way ticket.

As part of the plan, Kandula rented a U-Haul box truck in Herndon, Virginia. He had a valid contract in his own name.

At around 9:36 p.m. on May 22, 2023, Kandula allegedly crashed the U-Haul truck into barriers outside Lafayette Park in Washington D.C., USA in an attempt to get to the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest, Washington, D.C. At the time, 46th U.S. president Joe Biden, 80, was inside the White House.

Kandula left a Nazi flag at the crash spot. He was arrested and charged with trespassing, destruction of federal property, assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on a president, vice president or family member.

On the morning of May 23, 2023, Biden was briefed on the incident by the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Park Police. On May 24, 2023, Kandula met his defense lawyer Diane Shrewsbury for the first time minutes before he appeared before Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather.

A government prosecutor told the court that Kandula is neither a U.S. citizen nor a lawful permanent U.S. resident. Later that day, a U.S. Department of Justice official clarified that he has a green card for lawful and permanent residency in the U.S.

Shrewsbury requested a new pair of glasses for Kandula because his spectacles had been taken upon his arrest and he was having trouble seeing. Meriweather issued a medical alert to get the jail to replace them and ordered him held without bail until at least his next court appearance on the afternoon of May 30, 2023.
