When the allegations came out, Cook and his family and friends were “in absolute shock”, his lawyer Graham McKinnon told the Gainesville Times. The lawyer said Cook’s character and reputation have been “outstanding and beyond reproach” throughout his life and teaching career and asked the community to “please withhold judgment at this stage in the process.”
