1. On December 31, 1975, he and three other teenagers robbed a convenience store near St. Edward’s University in Austin, Travis County. Derly Ramirez, the store attendant, was shot in the back and was paralyzed. Convicted of aggravated robbery, he received a 20-year sentence.

3. While on parole for his aggravated robbery conviction, he fatally strangled and sexually assaulted Kendra Page, 8, who was riding her bike near Langford Elementary School in Austin on January 3, 1982. Her body was found in the dumpster at the school. On January 6, 1982, he turned himself in and took a plea bargain. Convicted of murder, he was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison. Then 167th District Judge Tom Blackwell ordered him to serve an additional 16 years due to his aggravated robbery conviction.
