Francis D. Lange, 43, of Scotland, Bon Homme County, South Dakota, United States has lived in different parts of Texas, USA including Conroe, Montgomery and Willis, Aside from Scotland, he has lived in other parts of South Dakota including Interior, Mitchell and Rapid City.
Lange was 1 year older than his former girlfriend Angela Monclova of Scotland. On November 9, 2021, he went to her residence in Scotland and shot everyone inside.
Monclova, her father Librado Carrasco Monclova and Loretta Diane Akins Kocourek were fatally shot. Librado was 68 while Kocourek was 66.
Another adult and a girl, then 5, were also shot but they both survived. Their names were not released.
On May 31, 2023, Lange entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill to two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of murder. While he faces mandatory life in prison without parole under the plea, he will receive mental health evaluation and treatment.
Psychiatrist Josette Lindahl met with Lange three times and diagnosed him with schizoaffective disorder. Alcohol and other substances made his symptoms worse, according to her.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. Lange will be sentenced on July 24, 2023.
