Lorenzo “Renzo” Smith and his stepson Shawn Jackson, both of Richmond, Virginia, United States, have died. Smith was 36 while Jackson was 18.
Jackson is Tameeka Jackson-Smith‘s son. Renzo and Tameeka got married on September 6, 2014 and they have a daughter born in 2014.
As an artist, Shawn was also known as OTG Shawn. He attended Huguenot High School in Richmond.
On June 6, 2023, Renzo, his daughter, Amari Ty-Jon Pollard, 19, of Henrico, Virginia and hundreds of people attended Huguenot High School’s graduation ceremony at the Altria Theater in Richmond. Shawn was one of the graduates.
At around 5:15 p.m., after Shawn received his high school diploma, he and his father were fatally shot outside the Altria Theater allegedly by Pollard. Shawn’s sister was hit by a car while running from the area and was sent to the hospital.
Pollard is believed to be the sole gunman. He and Shawn knew each other, according to the Richmond Police Department.
Four other men aged 58, 55, 32, and 31 and a boy aged 14 were also shot. The victim aged 31 had life-threatening gunshot injuries while the other four had non-life-threatening injuries.
Two people were injured after falling and six others sustained injuries unrelated to the gunfire. Nine people were treated for anxiety and minor injuries. Several others had injuries other than gunshot wounds.
Shawn’s sister has been released from the hospital after receiving treatment. Pollard was arrested and booked into the Richmond County Jail in Richmond.
On June 7, 2023, Pollard was arraigned and he pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. He is expected to face additional charges.
Pollard is being held without bond. His status hearing in court is at 9:00 a.m. on June 21, 2023.
