Anna Louise Englund, 29, of Boulder, Colorado, United States gave birth to a boy in April 2023. The boy has died.
At around 4:30 p.m. on June 10, 2023, Boulder Police Department officers responded to a residence in Boulder to conduct a welfare check on Englund who was possibly having a mental health crisis. She had taken her son from her house and driven away in her car, witnesses told officers.
At around 10:20 p.m., Englund was located driving toward Boulder Community Hospital on Balsam Avenue in Boulder. Officers contacted her in the parking lot where they arrested her.
Englund’s son was rushed into the hospital’s emergency department. At 10:48 p.m., the boy was pronounced dead.
The exact cause and manner of death have not been released. The Boulder Police Department is still piecing together the sequence of events.
Englund’s mugshot has yet to be released. She as booked into the Boulder County Jail on Airport Road in Boulder and is facing one count of child abuse resulting in death and two counts of first-degree murder.
“Our hearts are with the child’s family during this terrible and difficult time,” Boulder Police Department chief Maris Herold stated. “This is a tragic situation and we are thinking about the child’s loved ones as they grieve all that has happened.”
