Gabriel Addison Girner, 21, of Sardis, Panola County, Mississippi is accused of ending the life of his own daughter. She was born in March 2023.

On June 14, 2023, Corinth Police Department officers were called to a residence on Douglas Street in Corinth regarding Girner’s baby who was unresponsive. The baby’s mother, 16, was also there.
The baby was first taken to Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was later transferred to LeBonhuer Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, USA.
In the evening, the baby died due to blunt force trauma to the head. Her body was sent to the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory in Pearl, Rankin County, Mississippi.
Authorities did not release details about the identity of the baby’s mother, who was arrested and charged with condoning child abuse. She could face additional charges.
On June 18, 2023, Girner was picked up by deputies of the Panola County Sheriff’s Office at the request of the Corinth Police Department, which charged him with capital murder. He was transported to Corinth and booked into the Alcorn County Correctional Facility, a medium-security institution in Corinth.
In January 2022, a recital was given at the Alcorn County Correctional Facility by graduates of the poetry class offered by the Prison Writes Initiative (PWI), which was founded by Louis Bourgeois. Originally from Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, USA, he taught poetry at the University of Mississippi in University, Lafayette County, Mississippi.
In November 2022, Landon Tucker was sworn into office as the chief of the Corinth Police Department. He replaced Ralph Dance, who assumed office as the mayor of Corinth that month.
Corinth is the county seat of Alcorn County. It was named for Corinth, Greece.
