Mitchell Van Vu, 56, of Bay Point, Contra Costa County, California, United States worked at Stanford Health Care in Stanford, Santa Clara County, California as an ultrasound technician. He also worked at other hospitals in the Bay Area and Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
While working as an ultrasound technician, Vu allegedly sexually assaulted two male patients who were in his care. Both patients are in their 40s.
On two separate incidents in March 2023, Vu allegedly fondled the genitals of a male in-patient during ultrasound procedures at Stanford Health Care. At around 5:21 p.m. on April 10, 2023, the patient called the Palo Alto Police Department to report the incidents.
Officers contacted Vu. They filed a report with the help of hospital staff.
On May 15, 2023, Vu allegedly fondled the genitals of another male in-patient during ultrasound procedures at Stanford Health Care. The patient immediately alerted hospital officials.
Stanford Health Care administrators placed Vu on administrative leave. At around 1:09 p.m. on May 16, 2023, the Palo Alto Police Department received a call from the second in-patient.
On June 21, 2023, Palo Alto Police Department detectives arrested Vu without incident at his residence in Bay Point. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, Santa Clara County and charged with six counts of sexual battery.
