Bond for Sparks was set at $90,000 for the two charges. When the officers tried to arrest Newton, he backed into an unmarked police vehicle in an attempt to flee then refused medical treatment.

Because Newton had been involved in a vehicle accident, the Jefferson County Jail n Birmingham refused to accept him and he is currently wanted for the listed charges. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office explained that its policy is not to accept an injured prisoner until they have been medically cleared and it is the arresting agency’s responsibility to provide that medical clearance.
